REMOVAL
CAUTIONS:
- Do not use air tools to remove or install the halfshaft nut.
Failure to
follow this instruction may result in damage to the component
- Do not allow halfshafts to hang unsupported at one end or joint
damage will occur.
- Make sure the halfshaft constant velocity (CV) joints do not over
articulate. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to
the CV joints.
NOTES:
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations
depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential
information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components
removed to provide extra clarity.
Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and
Operation).
Remove the wheel and tire.
Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and
Installation).
Disconnect the stabilizer bar link. Discard the nut.
Disconnect the suspension height sensor.
NOTE:
Retain the halfshaft nut for use in the installation procedure.
Remove the halfshaft nut.
Remove and discard the brake caliper carrier bolt.
Remove and discard the lower suspension control arm ball joint
bolt.
Disconnect the lower suspension control arm ball joint.
CAUTION:
Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub
assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in
damage to the halfshaft.
Using the special tool, disconnect the halfshaft from the wheel
knuckle.
Special Tool(s): 205-857
WARNING:
Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
CAUTION:
Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.
Remove the halfshaft.
Discard the halfshaft retaining clip.
Inspect the halfshaft seal. Renew if damaged.

Dress the flanges where necessary.
Offer up the new back panel outer panel and clamp into position.
Check alignment, if correct, proceed to next step, if not, rectify and
recheck before proceeding.
Drill holes where the MIG plug welds are to be installed as
indicated.
