Removal

CAUTIONS:

  • Do not use air tools to remove or install the halfshaft nut. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the component
  • Do not allow halfshafts to hang unsupported at one end or joint damage will occur.
  • Make sure the halfshaft constant velocity (CV) joints do not over articulate. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the CV joints.

NOTES:

  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

Refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

Remove the wheel and tire.

Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

Front drive halfshafts front right halfshaft - FWD (G1794496) - Removal

Disconnect the stabilizer bar link. Discard the nut.

Front drive halfshafts front right halfshaft - FWD (G1794496) - Removal

Disconnect the suspension height sensor.

NOTE:

Retain the halfshaft nut for use in the installation procedure.

Remove the halfshaft nut.

Front drive halfshafts front right halfshaft - FWD (G1794496) - Removal

Remove and discard the brake caliper carrier bolt.

Front drive halfshafts front right halfshaft - FWD (G1794496) - Removal

Remove and discard the lower suspension control arm ball joint bolt

Front drive halfshafts front right halfshaft - FWD (G1794496) - Removal

Disconnect the lower suspension control arm ball joint.

CAUTION:

Do not use a hammer to detach the halfshaft from the hub assembly, failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the halfshaft.

Using the special tool, disconnect the halfshaft from the wheel knuckle.

Special Tool(s): 205-857

Front drive halfshafts front right halfshaft - FWD (G1794496) - Removal

Remove the halfshaft bearing supporting bracket.

WARNING:

Be prepared to collect escaping fluids.

CAUTION:

Keep the halfshaft horizontal to avoid damaging the oil seal.

Remove the halfshaft.

CAUTION:

Take extra care not to damage the mating faces.

Inspect the seal. Renew if damaged.
