Land Rover Discovery: Parking Brake and Actuation Electronic Parking Brake Release When the
Vehicle Has no Electrical Power (G1785116) / General Procedures
CHECK
WARNING:
Chock the wheels and make sure that all personnel are clear of the
vehicle before carrying out the following procedure
NOTES:
- To be carried out in the event that the vehicle has no electrical
power.
- Right hand illustration shown, left hand is similar.
Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Refer to: Specifications (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables,
Specifications).
WARNING:
Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.
Raise and support the vehicle.
Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and
Installation).
CAUTION:
Discard the bolt.
NOTE:
Remove and discard the O-ring seal.
Torque: 11 Nm
NOTE:
Some variation in the illustrations may occur, but the essential
information is always correct.
ADJUSTMENT
CAUTION:
A new O-ring seal is to be installed.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
Repeat the above procedure for the other side.
Calibrate the electric parking brake (EPB) using the diagnostic tool.
Parking brake and actuation electronic parking brake service mode activation
and deactivation (G1785115) general procedures
ACTIVATION
CAUTIONS:
- The electric park brake (EPB) switch apply/release is inhibited
while
in this mode (for safety of technicians fingers) so do not drive the
vehicle in this condition. Failure to follow this instruction may cause
personal injury.
- This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral
position,
with the ignition turned ON (the engine must be OFF) and the
parking brake system released.
- Once the rear brake pads or brake discs have been installed, the
Service Mode must be cancelled.
NOTE:
This procedure allows the parking brake to be released when
removing and installing new rear brake pads or brake discs.
- Press and hold the parking brake switch in the release position.
- Wait one second.
- Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle
position.
- Wait one second.
- Switch the ignition OFF and back ON immediately.
NOTE:
An audible noise will be heard to confirm that the parking brake has
been released in Service Mode.
- Release the accelerator pedal and release the parking brake switch
to the neutral position.
NOTE:

DEACTIVATION
CAUTION:
This procedure requires the vehicle in the Park or Neutral position,
with the ignition turned ON (the engine must be OFF) and the
parking brake system in Service Mode.
- Press and hold the parking brake switch in the apply position.
- Wait one second.
- Press and hold the accelerator pedal in the wide open throttle
position.
- Wait one second.
- Switch the ignition OFF and back ON immediately
NOTE:
An audible noise will be heard to confirm that the parking brake has
been released from the Service Mode.
- Release the accelerator pedal and release the parking brake switch
to the neutral position.

installation
REMOVAL
NOTE:
The electric park brake (EPB) system software is integrated within the
anti-lock brake (ABS) module.
- Refer to: Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Module (206-09 Anti-Lock
Control, Removal and Installation).
INSTALLATION
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Calibrate the EPB system in the ABS module using the diagnostic tool.
