Land Rover Discovery: Vehicle Specific Information and Tolerance Checks Rear Door Alignment

CHECK

Check all trims are located and fitted correctly before performing this procedure.

NOTE:

The rear quarter panel is a fixed point, all alignment checks must start from the rear quarter panel.

Check all vehicle gaps and profiles.

Vehicle specific and tolerance checks.

Refer to: Body and Frame (501-26 Body Repairs - Vehicle Specific Information and Tolerance Checks, Description and Operation).

  1. Rear door striker initial check.
  2. (1) - Keep the exterior door handle open.
  3. (2) - Place hand in position illustrated to allow feel of the door latch to striker.
  4. (3) - Move the rear door in and out to feel the latch on striker.

ADJUSTMENT

  1. Rear door striker initial adjustment.

NOTE:

The striker plate is held in position by a spring loaded backing plate.

(1) Loosen the rear door striker retaining bolts. Do not fully remove.

NOTE:

Using a suitable nylon block, break the seal on the rear door striker to allow more movement.

(2) Adjust the rear door striker upwards or downwards using a suitable nylon block to remove contact between striker and latch, re-check the door closure and re-adjust striker if required.

Do not tighten the rear door striker retaining bolts at this point.

  1. Door hinge to B-pillar adjustment.
  2. Loosen the rear door hinge to B-pillar retaining bolts half turn only.

  1. (1)Using a suitable nylon block adjust the upper door hinge as illustrated.
  2. (2) The rear door will move in the directions illustrated.

  1. (1)Using a suitable nylon block adjust the lower door hinge as illustrated.
  2. (2) The rear door will move in the directions illustrated.

Tighten the hinge to B-pillar retaining bolts.

Torque: 35 Nm

Re-check the rear door latch to striker and adjust if required.

  1. Upper rear door profile adjustment.

NOTES:

  • Adjustment to the upper part of the rear door will effect the profile of the lower part of the rear door.
  • Upper retaining bolt is a shouldered bolt.
  1. (1) Loosen the rear door hinge to door retaining bolts. Do not fully remove.
  2. (2) Adjust the door on the upper door hinge as illustrated.
  3. (3)The rear door will move in the directions illustrated
  4. Tighten the upper door hinge to door retaining bolts.

Torque: 35 Nm

  1. Lower rear door profile adjustment.

NOTES:

  • Adjustment to the lower part of the rear door will effect the profile of the upper part of the rear door.
  • Lower retaining bolt is a shouldered bolt.
  1. (1) Loosen the rear door hinge to door retaining bolts. Do not fully remove.
  2. (2) Adjust the door on the upper door hinge as illustrated.
  3. (3)The rear door will move in the directions illustrated.

    Tighten the lower door hinge to door retaining bolts.

Torque: 35 Nm

  1. Rear door striker final check.
  2. (1) - Keep the exterior door handle open.
  3. (2) - Place hand in position illustrated to allow feel of the door latch to striker.
  4. (3) - Move the rear door in and out to feel the latch on striker.

ADJUSTMENT

  1. Rear door striker final adjustment.
  2. (1) Adjust the rear door striker as required using a suitable nylon block and re-check the door closure.
  3. (2) Tighten the rear door striker retaining bolts

Torque: 25 Nm

CHECK

NOTE:

The rear quarter panel is a fixed point, all alignment checks must start from the rear quarter panel.

  1. Re-check all vehicle gaps and profiles.
  2. Vehicle specific and tolerance checks.

Refer to: Body and Frame (501-26 Body Repairs - Vehicle Specific Information and Tolerance Checks, Description and Operation).

Make sure all hinge retaining bolts that have been adjusted are touched up with paint.
