Land Rover Discovery: Central Door Locking System -Manual Operation

The Central Door Locking (CDL) system provides the option of up to three manual locking modes, dependent on the vehicle specification. The locking modes are activated using the CDL lock/unlock switch in the driver door, the CDL lock switches in the passenger and rear doors (if fitted), the lock switch on the exterior door handle for the Passive Entry/Passive Start (PEPS) system keyless locking system or the smart key lock/unlock switches:

  • Internally locked
  • Externally locked
  • Double locked (dependent on market specification).

When the vehicle is externally locked, the CJB flashes the turn signal indicators once for 250 milliseconds. When the vehicle is double locked, the CJB flashes the turn signal indicators twice for 250 milliseconds with a 250 millisecond pause between flashes. When the vehicle is unlocked with the smart key, the CJB flashes the turn signal indicators twice for 250 milliseconds with a 250 millisecond pause between flashes.

The smart key may be configured by the driver for single point entry or global entry, by simultaneously pressing the smart key lock and unlock switches for 4 seconds. The vehicle must initially be in an unlocked state.

The turn signal indicators will flash twice for 250 milliseconds with a 250 millisecond pause between flashes to confirm the mode change. The vehicle will also lock and then unlock in the selected mode. Single point entry unlocks only the driver door. Global entry unlocks all doors.

When single point entry is enabled, an unlock command from the smart key or unlocking using the keyless entry system will only unlock the driver's door, tailgate and the fuel filler door. To unlock the remaining entry points, a second unlock command from the smart key or operation of the unlock switch on the driver door CDL lock/unlock switch.

Additional options for speed dependent locking and automatic re-locking modes may be configured by the dealer using an approved Land rover diagnostic system. All vehicles incorporate an automatically operated crash unlocking mode which is initiated by a signal from the Restraints Control Module (RCM) when a crash condition is detected.

INTERNALLY LOCKED MODE

The internally locked mode is activated by a single operation of the lock switch on the CDL lock/unlock switch or any of the CDL lock switches (if fitted). When in the internally locked mode:

  • The exterior door handle cables are disengaged from the door latches to prevent opening of the doors from outside the vehicle
  • The CJB disregards an open request from the tailgate open switch to prevent opening of the tailgate from outside the vehicle
  • The vehicle is unlocked by operating the unlock switch on the CDL lock/unlock switch, operating the smart key unlock switch or opening the driver or passenger door.

EXTERNALLY LOCKED MODE

The externally locked mode is activated by a operating the smart key lock switch or pressing the lock switch on the exterior door handle using the keyless entry system. When in the externally locked mode:

  • The exterior door handle cables are disengaged from the door latches to prevent opening of the doors from outside the vehicle
  • The CJB disregards an open request from the tailgate open switch to prevent opening of the tailgate from outside the vehicle
  • The fuel flap motor is energised to lock the fuel flap
  • The vehicle is unlocked by operating the unlock switch on the smart key or operating an external door handle to initiate the keyless entry system.

DOUBLE LOCKED MODE

The double locked mode is activated by operating the smart key lock switch twice within 3 seconds. When in the double locked mode:

  • The interior and exterior door handle cables are disengaged from the door latches to prevent opening of the doors from inside or outside the vehicle
  • The fuel flap motor is energised to lock the fuel flap
  • The CJB disregards an open request from the tailgate open switch to prevent opening of the tailgate from outside the vehicle
  • The vehicle is unlocked by operating the unlock switch on the smart key or operating an external door handle to initiate the keyless entry system.

For all UK, Europe and ROW specification vehicles, operating the smart key lock switch will externally lock the vehicle to disengage the exterior handle cables, and will arm the active anti-theft system.

For additional information, refer to: Anti-Theft - Active (419-01A, Description and Operation).

For NAS, Japan and Gulf specification vehicles, operating the smart key lock switch will externally lock the vehicle to disengage the exterior handle cables, and will arm the active and passive anti-theft system .

For additional information, refer to: Anti-Theft - Active (419-01A, Description and Operation) / Anti-Theft - Passive (419-01B, Description and Operation).

For all vehicles except NAS, Japan and Gulf specifications, operating the smart key lock switch twice within 3 seconds will double lock the vehicle to disengage the interior and exterior handle cables, and will arm the active and passive anti-theft system.
