/ Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
NOTE:
The fender apron panel reinforcement is installed in conjunction with:
- Front bumper cover
- Hood
- Hood hinge
- Hood latch panel
- Front fender
- Front fender splash shield
- Fender apron panel
- The fender apron panel reinforcement is serviced as indicated.
- Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of
all Health and Safety requirements.

- For further information on the methods, tools and fixings used in
this procedure refer to the body repairs - general information
section.
NOTES:
- Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as
part of the repair.
- Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.

- Remove the hood hinge.
- For additional information, refer to: Hood Latch Panel (501-02,
Removal and Installation).
- For additional information, refer to: Fender (501-02, Removal and
Installation).
- For additional information, refer to: Fender Splash Shield (501-02,
Removal and Installation).
- For additional information, refer to: Fender Apron Panel (501-27,
Removal and Installation).
- Release and position the wiring harness to one side.
CAUTION:
Care should be taken not to cut through into the inner
panels.
- Measure, mark and cut the fender apron panel reinforcement as
indicated.
- Remove the spot welds as indicated.
- Separate the joints and remove the fender apron panel
reinforcement.
INSTALLATION
- Dress the flanges where necessary.
- Offer up the new fender apron panel reinforcement and clamp into
position. Check alignment, if correct proceed to next step, if not,
rectify and recheck before proceeding.
- Mark out the position on the new fender apron panel reinforcement
service panel, where the metal inert gas (MIG) butt weld joint is to
be made and cut the panel at the point indicated.
- Remove the new fender apron panel reinforcement.
- Clean and prepare the panel surfaces.
- Offer up the new fender apron panel reinforcement and clamp into
position. Check alignment, if correct proceed to next step, if not,
rectify and recheck before proceeding.
- MIG tack weld the butt joint.
- MIG weld the butt joint as indicated.
- Install the spot welds as indicated.
- Dress all welded joints.
- Install the hood hinges and tighten the bolts to 30Nm.
- Make sure that any open or exposed panel joints are correctly
sealed.
- Make sure corrosion protection is applied to all areas affected by
repair.
- The installation of associated panels and components is the reversal
of removal procedure.
