Land Rover Discovery: Front end Sheet Metal Repairs Suspension Top Mount  (G1770868) - Removal

Removal

NOTE:

The suspension top mount is installed in conjunction with:

  • Front bumper cover
  • Front bumper
  • Hood
  • Hood latch panel
  • Front fender
  • Front fender splash shield
  • Fender apron panel
  • Fender apron panel reinforcement
  • Instrument panel
  • Cowl side trim panel
  • Front seat
  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Front shock absorber and spring assembly
  • Front subfame
  • Secondary bulkhead
  • Anti-lock brake system (ABS) module
  • Brake booster
  • Brake pedal and bracket

NOTE:

The service panel is serviced not fully spot welded.

Front end sheet metal repairs suspension top mount (G1770868) - Removal

  1. The suspension top mount is serviced as indicated.
  2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

  • Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
  • Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.
  • To make sure the vehicle is correctly aligned it must be placed a Land Rover approved alignment jig.

Right hand only.

NOTE:

Left hand only.

  1. Release the battery junction box (BJB) and position to one side.
  2. Position the floor carpet to one side.
  3. Position the floor noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) material to one side.
  4. Release and position the brake pipes to one side.
  5. Release and position the wiring harness to one side.

NOTE:

Make sure that the spot welds are drilled from the inside.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

CAUTION:

This step requires the aid of another technician as the suspension top mount is heavy.

  1. Separate the joints and remove the suspension top mount.
