Land Rover Discovery: Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs 'B' Pillar Outer Panel (G1770904) - Removal

REMOVAL

NOTE:

In this procedure the B-pillar outer panel is installed in conjunction with:

  • Front door
  • Rear door
  • Front seat
  • Rear seat cushion
  • Front safety belt retractor
  • Front scuff plate trim panel
  • Rear scuff plate trim panel
  • Headliner
  • Side air curtain module

Side panel sheet metal repairs 'B' pillar outer panel (G1770904) - Removal

  1. The B-pillar outer panel is serviced as indicated.
  2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

  • Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
  • Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces

  9. Position the floor carpet to one side.
  10. Position the floor Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material to one side.
  11. Remove the front door striker from the B-Pillar.
  12. Remove the upper and lower rear door hinges.
  13. Release and position to one side the wiring harness along the BPillar inner and inner rocker panel.

CAUTION:

Care should be taken not to cut through into the inner reinforcements.

  1. Measure, mark and cut the B-pillar where the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) butt joints are to be made as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

NOTE:

Avoid where possible damaging the NVH components located behind the B-pillar outer panel.

  1. Carefully separate the joints and remove the old B-pillar outer panel and release the NVH component as indicated.
