Land Rover Discovery: Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs B-pillar Inner Panel (G1770906) / Removal and Installation

REMOVAL

NOTE:

The B-pillar inner panel is installed in conjunction with:

• Front fender
• Front door
• Rear door
• B-pillar outer panel
• Headliner
• Rocker panel
• Rocker panel and B-pillar inner
• B-pillar reinforcement

1. The B-pillar inner panel is serviced as indicated.
2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

• Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
• Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.

12. Release and position the floor carpet to one side.
13. Release and position the floor noise, vibration, harshness (NVH) material to one side.
14. Release and position the wiring harness to one side.
15. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

16. Carefully separate the joints and remove the panel.

INSTALLATION

1. Dress the flanges where necessary.
2. Clean and prepare the panel surfaces.
3. Offer up the new B-pillar inner panel and clamp into position.

   Check alignment, if correct, proceed to next step. If not, rectify and recheck before proceeding.

4. Drill holes where the MIG plug welds are to be installed as indicated.
5. Remove the B-pillar inner panel.
6. Deburr the drilled holes.

7. Drill holes in the roof reinforcement where the MIG plug welds are to be installed as indicated.
8. Deburr the drilled holes.
9. Offer up the new B-pillar inner panel and clamp into position.

   Check alignment, if correct, proceed to next step. If not, rectify and recheck before proceeding.

10. Install the spot and the MIG plug welds as indicated.
11. Dress all welds.
12. Make sure that any open or exposed panel joints are correctly sealed.
13. Make sure corrosion protection is applied to all areas affected by repair.
14. The installation of associated panels and components is the reversal of removal procedure.
