Installation

All vehicles

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

Install the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) Electronic Control Module (ECM)

Torque: 10 Nm

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

  1. Install the RDU wiring harness.
  2. Connect the electrical connectors.

Install the RDU breathers.

Install the RDU bolts.

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

Install the RDU support bracket.

Torque:

M8 29 Nm

M6 10 Nm

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

Install the RDU bolts.

Torque: 175 Nm

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

  1. Tighten the RDU bolts.

Torque: 110 Nm

  1. Remove the transmission jack.

CAUTION:

Do not over tighten the plastic plug. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the threads.

NOTE:

If equipped.

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

CAUTION:

The component must be aligned with the installation markings.

NOTE:

Tighten the retaining bolts working diagonally.

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

Connect the rear driveshaft to the rear differential. Renew the bolts.

Torque: 40 Nm

CAUTION:

Install the unions finger tight before final tightening.

Install the pipe unions.

Torque: 17 Nm

Install the Power transfer Unit (PTU) hydraulic fluid feed pipes.

Install the hydraulic pipe support bracket.

Torque: 10 Nm

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

Connect the electrical connector.

Rear drive axle_differential - vehicles with- active driveline differential case (G1781298) - Installation

Install the heatshield.

Torque: 10 Nm

  1. Install the rear halfshafts.

Refer to: Rear Right Halfshaft (205-05 Rear Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

Refer to: Rear Left Halfshaft (205-05 Rear Drive Halfshafts, Removal and Installation).

Vehicles with diesel engine

  1. Install the rear silencer.

    Refer to: Rear Silencer (309-00C Exhaust System - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel, Removal and Installation).

Vehicles with petrol engine

  1. Install the exhaust system.

    Refer to: Rear Silencer (309-00C Exhaust System - INGENIUM I4 2.0L Diesel, Removal and Installation).

All vehicles

  1. Connect the startup battery ground cable.

    Refer to: Specifications (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Specifications).

  2. Fill the RDU.

    Refer to: Differential Draining and Filling (205-02B Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles With: Active Driveline, General Procedures).

  3. Fill the and bleed the active driveline system.

    Refer to: Hydraulic System Draining, Filling and Bleeding (205-02B Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles With: Active Driveline, General Procedures).

  4. If a new component has been installed, configure using Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.
