DRAINING

NOTES:

  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
  • This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.

Refer to: Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.

Refer to: Specifications (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Specifications).

CAUTION:

Make sure the battery is disconnected. Failure to follow this instruction will cause a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) to be flagged on the vehicle.

NOTE:

The electrical connector on the RDU hydraulic motor has a two stage clip.

DRAINING

Move the clip upwards as illustrated.

DRAINING

Release the clip as illustrated to disconnect the electrical connector

DRAINING

Remove the fluid filler plug.

DRAINING

  • Remove the drain plug.
  • Drain the hydraulic oil from the Rear Drive Unit (RDU) and collect in a suitable container.
  • Install the drain plug.

Torque: 16 Nm

FILLING

CAUTION:

Make sure the correct specification of oil is used.

Fill the RDU to the level of the of the fill plug.

Refer to: Specifications (205-02B Rear Drive Axle/Differential - Vehicles With: Active Driveline, Specifications).

FILLING

  • Install the fluid filler plug.

Torque: 12 Nm

Connect the RDU hydraulic motor electrical connector.

FILLING

Manually close the two pipe port valves.

Lower the vehicle.

Connect the startup battery ground cable.

Refer to: Specifications (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Specifications).

BLEEDING

Using the approved Land Rover diagnostic equipment, bleed the active driveline hydraulic system.

Raise the vehicle.

Inspect the hydraulic system connections for leaks.

CAUTION:

If the two pipe port valves are in the closed position the bleeding procedure has been unsuccessful.

BLEEDING

Once the bleeding procedure is complete check the valves are in the open position. If the valves are still in the closed position, Using the approved Land Rover diagnostic equipment re-run the bleed the active driveline hydraulic system.

Lower the vehicle.
