Land Rover Discovery: Rear end Sheet Metal Repairs Back Panel Outer (G1770946) - Removal

Removal

NOTE:

The back panel outer is installed in conjunction with:

  • Rear bumper cover
  • Rear bumper
  • Rear bumper retaining rail
  • Rear lamp assembly
  • Quarter panel lower extension
  • Loadspace trim panel

Rear end sheet metal repairs back panel outer (G1770946) - Removal

  1. The back panel outer is serviced as indicated.
  2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

  • Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
  • Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.

  1. Remove the liftgate mounting buffers as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

  1. Fold back the edges of the panels to reveal hidden spot welds as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

  1. Carefully build an expansion space between the rear lamp panel outer and back panel outer as indicated.

  1. Carefully separate the joints and pull down the back panel outer to remove it as indicated.
