Land Rover Discovery: Side Panel Sheet Metal Repairs Rocker Panel and 'B' Pillar Outer Panel (G1770927) -  Removal

NOTE:

The rocker panel and B-pillar outer is installed in conjunction with:

  • Front bumper cover
  • Front fender
  • Front fender splash shield
  • Front door
  • Rear door
  • Front seat
  • Rear seat cushion
  • Cowl side trim panel
  • B-Pillar lower trim panel
  • B-pillar upper trim panel
  • Front scuff plate trim panel
  • Front safety belt retractor
  • Rear quarter panel moulding
  • Rocker panel moulding
  • Headliner
  • Side air curtain module

Side panel sheet metal repairs rocker panel and 'B' pillar outer panel (G1770927) -  Removal

  1. The rocker panel and B-pillar outer is serviced as indicated.
  2. Before commencing this procedure make sure that you are aware of all Health and Safety requirements.

NOTES:

  • Any joints sealed as part of vehicle manufacture must be sealed as part of the repair.
  • Make sure a zinc rich primer is applied to any bare metal surfaces.

  17. Release and position the floor carpet to one side.
  18. Release and position the floor Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) material to one side.
  19. Release and position the bulkhead NVH material to one side.
  20. Remove the upper and lower rear door hinges.
  21. Remove the front door lower hinge.
  22. Release and position the wiring harness along the B-pillar inner and inner rocker panel to one side.

CAUTION:

Care should be taken not to cut through into the inner reinforcements.

  1. Measure, mark and cut where the Metal Inert Gas (MIG) butt joint is to be made as indicated.

  1. Measure, mark and cut where the MIG butt joints are to be made as indicated.

  1. Remove the spot welds as indicated.

NOTE:

Avoid where possible damaging the NVH component located behind the rocker panel and B-pillar outer.

  1. Carefully separate the joints and remove the rocker panel and Bpillar outer also releasing the NVH component as indicated.

    ADJUSTMENT Transmission mounting WARNING: Do not work on or under a vehicle supported only by a jack. Always support the vehicle on safety stands. Raise and support the vehicle. Using a suitable hydraulic jack, support the transmission. CAUTION: Take extra care when installing the component.
